Fellow Member,
Beatson Ladies Tri-Am
Thank you for giving up our course on Monday 14th June 2021 for the Ladies Tri-Am which was held in aid of the Beatson Cancer Charity. There were 190 participants at the event, travelling from near and far, many of whom had previous experience of playing at our Club.
I am very pleased to announce that the event raised circa £6500 for the charity, a net £3000 from entry fees and £2000 of food and beverage income.
The structure of the day offered prizes for Nearest the Pin at 6, 12 and 17, Near the Line at 18 and Beat the Pro on 17. This last challenge saw 15 ladies beat either Campbell Elliott of Haggs Castle or Gordon Stewart of Cawdor.
A Ben Lomond Gin Tasting Experience was also provided on the Course by David Guthrie of the Loch Lomond Whisky Group which, of course, was well received.
My thanks go to Graham Thompson who organised the event, the Member volunteers including Robin Heron and John Grant and his team, Tariq Ali our be-kilted score taker, the Beatson volunteers and to our staff who made our guests most welcome throughout the day with a top-quality service. We received many accolades for what was an excellent day both on and off the course.
Our thanks also go to David Guthrie of The Loch Lomond Whisky Group and Marcelo Rodriguez of Schroder Wealth Management and our corporate sponsors McRoberts LLP (Neil Kennedy, Managing Partner) and Turner & Townsend (Vince Clancy CEO). Thanks to the PGA for the services of Campbell Elliott of Haggs Castle and Gordon Stewart of Cawdor golf clubs and to Hugh Fulton Group, Campbell Thomson, Wood Consulting and our own Club for ball pledges. Thanks also to the many golf clubs that offered fourballs for pledging.
Dumbarnie Links 4 Ball Pledge
We have received from David Scott, General Manager of Dumbarnie Links, a voucher for a fourball which is valid until 1st June 2022 in support of the Beatson Cancer Charity. The current Scottish Residents rate for a fourball is £500. This is a beautiful course and a real experience for anyone who hasn’t yet played there.
Any pledge from our membership should be placed in one of the envelopes provided with your name and contact number, sealed and dropped into the box sitting in the caddiemaster area. If you wish to make a pledge but are unable to visit the Clubhouse before the closing date, please phone Kirsty or Robyn who will do the needful for you.
Please note that we still have fourballs available for pledge at either Douglas Park, Crow Wood and Pumpherston. If you are interested, please call Graham Thompson on 07713 214696.
Beatson Bunker
The Beatson Bunker on the 17th remains ‘open for business’ until 31st October 2021. It has raised £500 to the end of June plus a ‘bunker donation’ from the JR Group Corporate Day of £720.
MacMillan Cancer
A letter from Rohan Ramasubbu
I would like to say a huge thank you to the whole Club for hosting us for the MacMillan Longest Day Golf Challenge on 28th June. At this point we have raised £5,425 for this amazing charity.
In December 2020 my best mate Jack Bridges was diagnosed with melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer at the age of 28. He has had successful treatment which has thankfully removed the melanoma. This left us inspired to raise money and awareness to help with the treatment of cancer.
Our 72 holes were pretty gruelling – we started at 05.00 and finished at 21.30. We were spurred on though by the Club’s members. So many kind words of encouragement, stories shared, donations on the day – and we were even treated to lunch! Jack said on multiple occasions throughout the day that he could not believe how welcoming the members were. In truth, it made me extremely proud to be a member of this great Club. It was a bonus for Jack to get his first eagle (on the 15th, hole 33), and for me to get my first hole in one (on the 6th, hole 60)! I left a bottle of single malt behind the bar as there was barely anyone left in the clubhouse when we finished. I would like to thank the Captain and Committee for allowing us to complete this challenge and raise money for such a worthwhile cause. I would also like to thank the caddiemasters – and especially Pat on the day – for facilitating the tee times and spreading the word.
Best wishes Rohan Angus Ramasubbu
